Welcome to Khayelitsha – meaning new home in Xhosa. Khayelitsha is the biggest township in Cape Town by population. It is home mainly to the Xhosa people from the Eastern Cape and also home to a very small coloured population.
Townships where or are still referred to as locations or lokasies in Afrikaans and also called “Kasie” in slang, which is a short version of “lokasie”.
Khayelitsha is known for its vibrancy and love of South African music. The year 2015 heralded the birth of Rands lifestyle space in Khayelitsha. It was officially launched in August 2015 and the vibe keeps on getting louder. A tour to Cape Town is not complete without a visit to Rands.
